Riak NoSQL database founders Basho has seen 50% growth in revenue and booking for its big data solution outpacing the 30-35% average growth in the NoSQL market. Speaking to CCi Emmanuel “Manu” Marchal Managing Director, EMEA said the growth was down to the solutions “operational simplicity,” and pointed to new potential growth from the businesses 1.1 version of Riak TS (Time Series) which will ride the tide of the “huge business opportunity,” provided by the internet of things.
In October 2015, Basho launched a beta of Riak TS software – a variation of the businesses Riak KV solution optimised for high data ingestion rates and time–based and location-based requests – and has started to ship the first fully supported version Riak TS 1.1 this year. Additionally the Basho and Cisco collaboration continues to develop with a new framework enabling Riak KV to run on the open-source resource manager Apache Mesos, enabling organisations to automate the building of data centre infrastructure beneath Riak KV instances.

Marchal also indicated that Basho would be looking at the current big data market and identifying new areas outside of Basho’s current gaming and telecoms markets including retail, which fitted well with Basho’s KV products. New businesses signed up in the last quarter include; Mindbody, Concur, and Actual Experience.
